Roasting and Production Assistant

The Roasting & Production Assistant (R.P.A.) will report to the Production and Operations Managers.

Job Overview

The R.P.A. will assist in the roasting and preparation process, bagging and coffee production, and deliveries. We expect this position to be full time with 31-35 hours, 5 days per week at the roastery or on the road.  This position offers variability and a wide spread of tasks throughout the week, and we are excited about the growth opportunities that this position will provide to the company as well as the crew member.

Responsibilities and Duties

·      Roast Preparation: Prepares for roasting by pre-weighing green coffee batches, vacuuming and cleaning the roasters, and pre-heating the machines.

·      Roasting: Roasts batches of coffee according to the specs set by the head roaster.

·      Order Fulfillment: Assist with order fulfillment by bagging and packing roasted coffee and preparing it for shipment or delivery.

·      Delivery: Hand-delivers coffee to wholesale partners in the Annapolis, Baltimore, and DC areas.

·      Quality Control: Participates in regular quality control tastings.

Qualifications

·      Interest in coffee; industry experience preferred.

·      Able to work under pressure with time-sensitive tasks.

·      Able to follow instruction and attention to detail.

·      Good communication and customer service skills.

·      Comfortable driving delivery van in city setting.

·      Able to lift 50lbs.

Training

The Production Assistant will be required to complete a roasting apprenticeship with our Head Roaster prior to operating a roaster on their own. Training for order fulfillment and delivery routes will take place during the first week of employment.

Tuesday: Roast Assisting

Wednesday: Order Fulfillment

Thursday: DC Route Deliveries

Friday: Annapolis-Baltimore Route Deliveries
