This is hands down one of the most spectacular coffees we have carried! Lourdes participates as part of a project called Creativa Coffee District.  As a part of this program all of a producers coffee is sold together; meaning if we wanted it, we needed to purchase Lourdes' full lot of coffee.  After tasting it, it was one of the easiest decisions we have made. What this means to you is that we are the only ones in the world with this coffee!  We are pretty excited about that.

Lourdes was born and raised on a coffee farm. At 38, she has been close to coffee all her life. Her family used to have a mill and a large estate, which they later divided between the next generation. Lourdes inherited La Llorona, a fifty-year-old farm of one hundred hectares in Renacimiento. The farm also has cattle ranching and vegetable and fruit trees planted in addition to coffee.

Twenty hectares of La Llorona are dedicated to coffee production, where Lourdes has planted 80,000 coffee trees of Catuai and Caturra varieties. The main harvest goes from December to February. Once the cherries are collected they are immediately taken to Creativa’s wet mill, where they are processed.

On the combination of art and coffee, Lourdes considers that “Coffee is art from seedling to cup. So for me, coffee is an art and goes very well with painting, music, and literature. Art is food for all senses. It moves us and transforms us. From my experience with my daughter, who is an artist, I’ve seen how difficult it is to express feelings, and how they finally end up being experienced through the artwork itself.”

Creativa Coffee District:

Creativa Coffee District captures the collision between coffee and art in an equilibrium that inspires collaboration and change. The processing facility in the Chiriquí province of Panama serves as a canvas for coffee professionals to create masterpieces that elevate the taste experience.

With the sustainability of future generations in mind, Creativa uses renewable energy during processing and transport to shrink their carbon footprint. The project is made possible by cooperation between the environment and the community. Creativa Coffee District purchases cherries from smallholders in Hornito, Boquete, and Renacimiento coffee areas of Chiriquí and conducts all stages of processing, drying, and export preparation. At Creativa, coffee production is an art form.

Please note: to ensure your coffee arrives as fresh as possible coffees are roasted to order. Coffee is roasted Tuesday, packaged Wednesday, and shipped on Thursday. Orders will be filled as quickly as possible depending on availability but please note that order arriving after Monday may be filled the following week.
