Although we have been partnering with Gold Mountain Coffee growers for years this washed Caturra is our first offering from their very own farm and it is a beauty! The balance and silky mouthfeel paired with notes of creme brûlée, plumb compote, white raisin, almond, and baking spice make this coffee a show stopper!
More info on our producer:
Finca Idealista sits on a mountaintop that borders a nature reserve, whose trees act as a natural air conditioner for its many varieties of award-winning coffee beans. This cool microclimate lengthens the Coffe cherry maturity process, allowing the beans more time to absorb natural sugars and other attributes that contribute to a rounded cup profile.
Additionally, its workers receive the highest wages around and local pickers are trained to pick only the reddest cherries so the farms crop reaches its full potential and highest level of sweetness. This same level of care is carried into its processing, sorting, and exporting. Finca Idealista also invests in volcanic filters to protect the environment form coffee run-off when coffee is washed. Notably, Idealista bought a rainforest just to protect its flora and fauna.
In addition to quality, Idealista, though its partner social enterprise Gold Mountain Coffee Growers, supports community growth and development through educations supplies, running water for schools, scholarships and medical supplies, free computing classes for girls, and new need based initiatives. For all of these efforts Gold Mountain even won the SCAE Sustainability Award for it economic and environmental achievements.
This is not simply fair trade, this is quality based sustainability at its best and it shows itself in every sip.
This is no marketing gimmick. For every 12oz bag of Open Seas coffee you drink we are actually giving an average of 210 L of clean drinking water to real villagers in one of our source countries. That is over 35 days worth of potable water per bag. Through our 10-4Farmers Initiative we are investing 10% of our gross profits into sustainable water filtration systems for coffee farming communities and surrounding areas.
